Senators continue eight-game homestand vs. Sharks

Feb 26, 2009 - 11:28 AM San Jose (41-9-9) at Ottawa (23-27-9), 7:30 p.m. EST

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- An extensive stay at ScotiaBank Place could be the Ottawa Senators' last chance to make a playoff push.

The Senators continue their season-high, eight-game homestand against the Western Conference-leading San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

Ottawa snapped a three-game losing streak by kicking off its stretch with a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Goaltender Alex Auld has started five of the Senators' last six games and they have gone 3-1-1 with him in goal. Prior to his current stretch, Auld watched rookie Brian Elliott start 12 of the team's previous 14.

Despite winning six of their last nine, Ottawa is still 13 points away from catching the Buffalo Sabres, who occupy the eighth and final playoff slot in the East.

San Jose, meanwhile, had its four-game winning streak halted with Wednesday's 4-1 setback to the Detroit Red Wings.

Evgeni Nabokov allowed four goals after surrendering a total of five in his previous four games.
