Reeling Rangers try to break out vs. Avalanche
Feb 28, 2009 - 11:17 AM Colorado (28-33-1) at NY Rangers (31-24-8) 7:00 p.m. ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers have continued their low-scoring, losing ways despite a recent coaching change.
Still in search of his first win behind the bench for New York, John Tortorella and the Rangers host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
A 2-8-4 stretch over its last 14 games has seen the Rangers slide into a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with Florida, which beat Henrik Lundqvist for a pair of goals exactly one minute apart in the third period as the Panthers rallied for a 2-1 victory on Thursday.
The losing skid cost Tom Renney his job. Florida's comeback win followed back-to-back losses to Toronto, the first of which resulted in Renney's firing.
New York outshot Florida, 41-22, but failed to provide Lundqvist with much goal support yet again in his season-high 10th consecutive start.
After starting its season-high, six-game road trip with a win, Colorado experienced its own problems scoring Thurday in losing its third straight.
The Avalanche were shut out in Martin Brodeur's first start in nearly four months as the New Jersey Devils captured a 4-0 win.
Colorado sits in last place in the Western Conference but has won seven straight over New York and is 10-1-0 in their last 11 meetings.
