Capitals look to snap two-game slide vs. Maple Leafs
Mar 5, 2009 - 11:14 AM Toronto (25-26-13) at Washington (40-20-5) 7:00 p.m. ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have been playing some of their best hockey of the season over the last two weeks. However, they still have yet to overcome the Washington Capitals.
They get another chance to do just that on Thursday night as they hit the road to take on the Capitals in an Eastern Conference clash.
The Leafs haven't lost in regulation since February 17, a stretch that includes a four-game winning streak from February 22-28. The streak came to an end on Tuesday, as the New Jersey Devils pulled out a 3-2 overtime victory.
Washington has won both of its meetings with Toronto this season, holding the Leafs to just two total goals between the two contests. Milan Jurcina scored the game-winner midway through the third period en route to a 2-1 win on December 6.
Three weeks later, the clubs squared off again, as Alex Ovechkin tallied twice to lead the way to a 4-1 triumph. However, in the present day, the Capitals have lost their last two games, yielding 11 goals in that span.
