Reutimann captures first Busch Series win at Memphis

Oct 28, 2007 - 12:21 AM MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- David Reutimann captured his first career NASCAR Busch Series victory Saturday and also kept Carl Edwards from clinching the title.

Reutimann led 194 laps in a Toyota Camry during a caution-filled Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park for his first win in 63 starts.

It was the second win for a Toyota in the Busch series, following Jason Leffler's win at Indianapolis in July.

Edwards, who needed to finish eighth or better to claim the championship, crashed his Ford Fusion during the final lap while running 13th and wound up 25th.

Edwards now leads Reutimann by 531 points with three races remaining.

Edwards entered the event with a 638-point lead over Reutimann. But on Lap 130, he collided with Sterling Marlin, damaging his car. Edwards later got back on the lead lap and moved as high as 10th before falling back and eventually crashing.

Mike Bliss was second in a Dodge Charger, followed by the Fords of rookies David Ragan and pole-sitter Marcos Ambrose. Leffler rounded out the top five.

There were 25 cautions - one off the record for a NASCAR race set at Hickory Motor Speedway on April 18, 1992. Through 134 laps, the race had more laps under caution than green-flag runs.

The event was the first Busch Series race for reigning IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti.

Franchitti was involved in a number of wrecks and was even held a lap for aggressive driving before eventually finishing 32nd.
