Gordon impresses Guerra at Roosters
Dec 22, 2016 - 4:21 AM Not so long ago, Sydney Roosters forward Aidan Guerra didn't have the most flattering impression of Michael Gordon. However, Guerra said that dramatically changed when the Parramatta recruit impressed at Roosters pre-season training combining with halves Mitchell Pearce and ex-Rabbitoh Luke Keary.
"I spent a couple of years playing against Mick Gordon," Guerra told the Roosters' website.
"And I always just thought he was one of those guys who was very erratic, not too much method to his madness, just went 100 mile an hour.
"But he's impressed me with his skill and decision making out there."
Former NSW Origin flyer Gordon signed a one year deal to mentor 19-year-old fullback Latrell Mitchell.
But he may yet keep the teenager honest for the Roosters' No.1 jersey judging by the way he has linked with Pearce and Keary at training.
"I think having himself and Keary working together with Pearcey, it's been good," Guerra said.
Former Sharks No.1 Gordon is a new face at the Roosters along with Keary, Manly's Liam Knight and ex-Rabbitoh Paul Carter.
They lost Vincent Leuluai (Melbourne) and Sam Moa (Catalans) in the off-season.
"With no real disrespect to the ones who have been here before I think there is less of a gap between the people who would be playing every week to the people who are fighting for positions (this pre-season)," Guerra said of the Roosters' 2017 roster.
"That competition is going to be healthy for us."
