Mannering hopeful of quick NRL comeback

May 17, 2017 - 5:25 AM Warriors stalwart Simon Mannering hopes to return to NRL action within a fortnight after suffering a hamstring strain during training.

The 30-year-old vice-captain was sorely missed in last week's second-half collapse against Penrith, as his side surrendered a 28-6 lead to lose 36-28.

He'll again sit on the sidelines in Friday night's clash with St George Illawarra, but says he's aiming for a comeback next weekend against Brisbane.

The back-rower has returned to light running at training but will give the hamstring enough time to fully recuperate.

"I knew straight away and was just disappointed. I knew it was going to be at least a couple weeks but I'll aim for next weekend," Mannering told Radio Sport NZ.

"Hamstrings are an injury you can't play through - it restricts you."
