Earthquakes 2, Galaxy 2

Jul 23, 2010 - 5:53 AM CARSON, Calif. (AP) -- Landon Donovan scored in the 90th minute to lift the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-2 tie with the San Jose Earthquakes on Thursday night.

Edson Buddle scored his 12th goal for the Galaxy (12-2-4), who extended their lead over second-place Real Salt Lake to 10 points in the Western Conference.

Bobby Convey and Brandon McDonald scored for the Earthquakes (6-4-5), who extended their unbeaten streak to six games against all opponents.

"We'll take a point," McDonald said. "We should've had three but we'll take a point, especially on the road."

Donovan tied the score with a 1-yard shot. Tristan Bowen began the sequence with a pass from the right flank that goalkeeper Jon Busch fielded off his chest. After Buddle failed to convert the loose ball, Donovan pounced on it.

"We had a lot of pressure on them and we kept going," Donovan said. "At that point, you keep putting balls in front of the goal and try to make a play. Sometimes, it doesn't happen. Tonight, it did happen."

Convey gave San Jose a 1-0 lead in the second minute with a diagonal 14-yard shot inside the right post. The goal was Convey's first since April 2009.

Buddle tied the score in the 59th minute on a 3-yard shot. McDonald's 4-yard shot in the 72nd minute put the Earthquakes ahead, 2-1.

After goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts made the save on Ike Opara's attempt to convert Convey's corner kick, the rebound deflected off defender Omar Gonzalez to McDonald, who also scored his first goal of the season.
