San Jose sets home attendance record in win
Aug 21, 2010 - 10:32 PM SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Wondolowski thrilled a record-setting home crowd for San Jose, scoring in the fourth minute Saturday and lifting the Earthquakes to a 1-0 victory over the league-leading Los Angeles Galaxy.Wondolowski took advantage of what appeared to be a miscommunication between Galaxy goalie Donovan Ricketts and defender A.J. DeLaGarza to score his team-high eighth goal of the season. Bobby Convey sent a long pass into the penalty box which DeLaGarza left for Ricketts.
But the goalie failed to touch the ball, and Wondolowski coolly put it in the goal, delighting the 10,799 in attendance. That's a record crowd for the Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium, where they've played the last three seasons.
San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch made seven saves, including critical stops on Los Angeles star Landon Donovan in each half.
