TFC holds out for draw with Galaxy

Apr 14, 2011 - 2:20 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto FC played to a third successive draw on Wednesday, finishing 0-0 with the Los Angeles Galaxy at BMO Field.

Both of the meetings between the two sides finished without a goal last season, and despite the fact that the Galaxy (2-1-3) had the better of the play, Toronto (1-1-3) was able to hold out for a point.

The first chance of the match arrived in the 13th minute as the Galaxy's Chad Barrett struck the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the penalty area after a turnover in midfield.

One of the few chances for Toronto came midway through the opening half when Gianluca Zavarise had a close-range header saved by goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, but the visitors looked more likely to break the deadlock after halftime.

Todd Dunivant had his deflected effort from inside the area on the left strike the crossbar for L.A., while a well-taken free kick from David Beckham was curled around the wall from 25 yards but came back off the post.

Both teams will be in action this weekend with the Reds hosting D.C. United on Saturday, while Los Angeles hits the road to face Chicago on Sunday.
