Evans helps Seattle cruise past TFC
May 1, 2011 - 4:00 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - A pair of second-half goals from Brad Evans propelled Seattle Sounders FC to a 3-0 win over Toronto FC at Qwest Field on Saturday.Alvaro Fernandez got the hosts off to a good start when he got on the other end of a right-wing cross from Evans to head the ball home at the back post in the ninth minute.
Toronto (1-3-4) struggled to create many chances, but had its best one of the first half snuffed out by Seattle defender Tyson Wahl, who made a last-ditch challenge on Toronto's Javier Martina inside the penalty area.
Seattle (3-2-3) then took control of the match in the second half as James Riley clipped the top of the crossbar with a volley from the edge of the area before Evans tallied the first of his two goals in the 52nd minute when he was played into the box by Fredy Montero.
The win was secured 15 minutes from time as TFC's Mikael Yourassowsky handled the ball inside his own penalty area, allowing Evans to send goalkeeper Stefan Frei the wrong way from the spot.
After a slow start to the season, Seattle has now won three of its last four games, while Toronto is winless in six.
