RSL held to draw at FCD despite lightning delay
May 23, 2011 - 2:59 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas played to a 0-0 draw at Pizza Hut Park on Sunday in a game that was delayed for over 90 minutes because of lightning in the 83rd minute. Both teams were clearly missing their key playmaker in midfield as both FCD's David Ferreira and RSL's Javier Morales are out with long-term injuries, and it showed on Sunday as there was a distinct lack of creativity from either side.
Salt Lake (5-1-2) carved out the first chance as Will Johnson tested Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman with a long-range rocket that Hartman did well to parry.
The home side had the best chance of the opening half with George John forcing a good reaction stop from Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
Rimando had to be alert early in the second half as well with FCD's Eric Alexander forcing the keeper tip his shot over the crossbar from 20 yards.
However, as the match approached the 83rd minute, lightning was spotted and the two teams retreated to their dressing rooms for over 90 minutes before resuming play with both sides seemingly content with a point.
Dallas (5-3-3) extends its unbeaten streak to six games with the result, while Salt Lake has taken five points from its last three games.
