Oduro's 12th goal helps Chicago draw Houston

Oct 1, 2011 - 10:32 PM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Dominic Oduro took another step toward the MLS scoring title, and kept the Chicago Fire on track for a miraculous run to the postseason against his former club the Houston Dynamo.

Oduro scored his 12th goal of the season, tied for second with Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry, as Chicago tied Houston, 1-1, at Robertson Stadium to earn a huge road point, also its 18th in its last nine matches.

Chicago (7-8-16) had won five of its last six, but still extended its stretch of good form to nine matches with the draw. The Fire, who won just two matches through 24 games, have five wins and three draws in their last nine games.

The 16 draws currently sets a new MLS record, but Red Bull New York has 15 and could also establish a new mark before the season closes.

The Fire remain outside the top 10 and a playoff berth with three games left, but could sneak into the postseason with games against FC Dallas, D.C. United, and the Columbus Crew remaining.

Colin Clark scored for Houston (10-9-13), which moved level with Philadelphia on 43 points in the Eastern Conference. Sporting Kansas City entered the week atop the East with 44 points.

Houston took the lead after the half-hour mark when Clark slotted home from a few yards out in the 33rd for his fourth goal of the season, but Chicago made it 1-all before halftime when Oduro scored to the bottom-left corner.

Oduro played for Houston from 2009-11, but left the club to join Chicago early this season and his 12 goals double his total during his time with the Dynamo.

D.C. United's Dwayne De Rosario leads MLS with 14 goals.

Oduro left the match early in the second half with an injury, and neither side created a ton of good chances over the final 45 minutes.

Chicago will switch its focus to the U.S. Open Cup final on Tuesday at Seattle Sounders FC - which has won the last two titles.

The Fire return to MLS action Oct. 12 at Toyota Park against Dallas, while the Dynamo have just two matches remaining, at the Portland Timbers on Oct. 14 and then at home against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Oct. 23.
