Montreal stuns Sporting at Livestrong

May 6, 2012 - 2:41 AM Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City had two weeks to prepare for its match on Saturday against the Montreal Impact, but it didn't appear to help as the Canadian side handed Sporting a 2-0 defeat at Livestrong Sporting Park.

After winning its first seven games to start the MLS season, Sporting has lost two straight, while Montreal has started to find its footing having earned seven points from its last three matches.

The home side created more chances in the first half with Graham Zusi testing Montreal goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts twice before the Impact hit back on the half-hour mark.

Felipe Martins provided the moment of class that Montreal needed as he took possession of the ball 35 yards from goal, and after taking a touch, lashed a shot past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen from 30 yards.

It was the only shot on goal that Montreal had in the first half, and Kansas City continued to pressure after the break with Matt Besler heading over the net from inside the six-yard box while Kei Kamara's header also went close.

But much like the first half, Montreal hit back with one opportunity as Lamar Neagle got into the penalty area and was brought down by Aurelien Collin.

Patrice Bernier stepped to the spot and sent Nielsen the wrong way, doubling Montreal's lead with under 30 minutes to play.

Sporting continued to pressure the Impact net but its night was summed up in the 90th minute when Collin sent a header off the crossbar.
