Impact captain Arnaud returns to Kansas City
May 4, 2012 - 8:45 PM Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - The Montreal Impact will be facing Sporting Kansas City for the first time in MLS play on Saturday at Livestrong Sporting Park. But Impact captain Davy Arnaud will be very familiar with Saturday's opposition having spent the past 10 seasons with the Kansas City franchise.
"It will be pretty special," said Arnaud of his return to Kansas City. "Definitely when the schedule came out, it was one of the games that I took a look. Kansas City is a special place for me. I look forward to it."
Arnaud's current team is coming off of a 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers last time out and has earned seven points from its last four games, but Arnaud knows how tough Saturday's match will be and is not surprised by Sporting's fast start this season.
"You saw last year toward the end of the season that they made a really good run," said Arnaud. "I'm not surprised by their great start. They get a lot of results from the way they play. They are going to have a ton of energy this weekend and we'll have to be ready to match that."
Arnaud may not have picked the best time to return to Kansas City because Sporting has had two weeks to prepare for the game after suffering its only blemish of the season, a 1-0 defeat against Portland.
The only goal was an own goal and it came after a run of seven straight wins to start the season for Sporting, which still sits six points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference with two games in hand.
Sporting used its bye week to work on a few things after the Portland defeat, but confidence has remained high in the Sporting locker room.
"You can always work on stuff, but I think we've done well," Convey said. "We've only lost by scoring on ourselves, and that was a freak own goal. I've never seen anything like that before in my life. But other than that, I think we've been doing fine."
Sporting hasn't done much wrong this season and has only conceded three goals in eight games while scoring 12 itself.
Kansas City has the league's leader in assists in Graham Zusi (6) while Kei Kamara currently tops the charts in both shots (40) and shots on goal (18).
It all adds up to a potentially rough homecoming for Arnaud.
