'Quakes snap winless skid behind Wondolowski's late goal
May 9, 2013 - 4:35 AM Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Earthquakes snapped a six- match winless run on Wednesday after Chris Wondolowski scored in the 81st minute to lift the 'Quakes to a 2-1 win over Toronto FC at Buck Shaw Stadium.San Jose once again fell behind to a first-half goal from Toronto's Justin Braun.
But the club rallied in the second 45 minutes as Adam Jahn equalized in the 48th and Wondolowski netted his fifth goal of the campaign to snatch all three points for his side, which had drawn four of its last five games.
Toronto entered the contest on a seven-game winless skid, but TFC started well as a long ball from midfield fell to Braun inside the penalty area and he volleyed home from seven yards.
Shea Salinas should have tied the match for San Jose just before the break, but he fired over the net from six yards after a good ball from Wondolowski.
The hosts were on level terms in the 48th with Wondolowski once again setting up the chance, only this time Jahn made the most of the chance as he danced past a defender inside the box and beat goalkeeper Joe Bendik.
Wondolowski saw a deflected shot go narrowly wide 15 minutes from time, but he got another chance in the 81st from a corner kick.
Marvin Chavez swung the ball to the near post for Walter Martinez, whose glancing header found Wondolowski at the top of the six-yard box for a volley that the striker was never going to miss.
