Sarvas, Jimenez help L.A. down FC Dallas

Jul 8, 2013 - 4:41 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy bagged two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 defeat of FC Dallas at the StubHub Center on Sunday.

Marcelo Sarvas broke the deadlock in the 65th minute before Hector Jimenez added an insurance goal 10 minutes from time as the Galaxy (9-7-3) climbed to third place in the Western Conference by improving to 30 points on the season, bringing the club to within one point of second-place FC Dallas (8-4-7).

After a scoreless opening period, Los Angeles opened the scoring with a well- worked move down the left side of the penalty area.

Omar Gonzalez picked out Robbie Keane on the left flank and the Irishman managed to get to the endline before chipping a cross for Sarvas to nod home with a powerful header at the back post.

The dagger came from similar build-up play in the 80th minute as Keane released Robbie Rogers on the left side of the box. The Galaxy winger slid past his mark and centered a pass to the penalty spot where Jimenez was waiting to tuck home his third goal of the season.

Carlo Cudicini had just two saves to make in the Galaxy net as his flawless play helped the club attain an eighth clean sheet of the season.

Dallas is winless in its last six matches, taking just four points over that stretch.
