FCD sets sights on three points against Galaxy
Jul 5, 2013 - 8:55 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy has endured a tumultuous week on the field, and the club will try to end it with three points at home against FC Dallas on Sunday. After conceding two goals in stoppage time in a 3-2 defeat to the San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday, the Galaxy turned the tables on the Columbus Crew on Thursday, completing a 2-1 comeback victory with a pair of late penalty kicks from Robbie Keane.
The result went the right way for head coach Bruce Arena's team on Thursday, but the boss still feels his team has a long way to go.
"There's an awful lot of work to be done," Arena said after Thursday's match. "Finishing our chances is one of them. Defensively on the night, we were, for the most part, pretty good. Columbus really wasn't that dangerous and 10 minutes to go we're chasing the game, and that's not good. So, we've got to get better in all aspects and hopefully we can."
Sunday's match will be the club's third in eight days, but Keane knows that his team must focus on the match, and not worry about how many games they are playing in a short amount of time.
"Obviously it's been a really tough week for us," Keane said. "I think that's why we have all of the trainers to make sure we get ready for the game Sunday. It's a quick turnaround but I think it's the same for everybody so it doesn't make a difference."
FC Dallas has drawn four of its last five games to slip from the top spot in the Western Conference, but maybe the most disappointing result came on Thursday in a 0-0 home draw with Chivas USA.
David Ferreira squandered a great chance early in the game against the Goats, and Dallas was never able to quick get in sync offensively.
Ferreira was very upset after the match and didn't talk to reporters, but he will have a chance to make amends quickly.
"I think he's frustrated that we didn't get the win tonight," Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said. "He's frustrated that we put so much time and energy into focusing on this game for the win and we didn't get it."
