San Jose topples Chivas behind Wondolowski's brace

Aug 4, 2013 - 4:08 AM Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Wondolowski helped the San Jose Earthquakes to a third straight win on Saturday as he scored a goal in each half of San Jose's 2-0 win over Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The Earthquakes generated most of the chances in the first half, but weren't rewarded until just before the break when a flicked header from Victor Bernardez allowed Wondolowski to nod home the opening goal in the 45th minute.

Chivas thought the equalizer came in the 58th when Julio Morales had the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out for offsides.

And things got worse for the Goats just four minutes later when defender Carlos Bocanegra received a straight red card for a poor challenge on San Jose's Shea Salinas.

The Earthquakes were unable to capitalize right away, but Wondolowski made sure that his team would claim all three points when he scored on the rebound of a Salinas shot, handing Chivas its third defeat in four games.
