Dwyer nets late as SKC edges Colorado

Mar 30, 2014 - 12:20 AM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Sporting Kansas City left it late at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday as Dom Dwyer scored in the second minute of stoppage time to give the club a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids.

The match scoreless through the opening period, but Sporting needed just five minutes of second-half action to break the deadlock.

Sal Zizzo found space on the right flank in the 50th minute and centered a pass for Graham Zusi to tuck home from close range.

Colorado leveled the score 10 minutes later when Ike Opara's hand ball in the box resulted in a penalty kick, which Vicente Sanchez converted on the ensuing attempt.

The Rapids were awarded another penalty in the 77th minute when Shane O'Neill was brought down in the box by Benny Feilhaber, and Sanchez converted once more to hand the home side the lead.

But Feilhaber made amends for the foul almost immediately as he slotted home a pass from Zizzo one minute later to bring Sporting back on equal terms.

It looked as if the two sides would split the points, but Kansas City struck at the death when Dwyer collected a pass from Zusi and fired a left-footed shot into the top corner, giving Sporting its second victory of the season.
