Dwyer's brace leads Sporting past Impact
Apr 20, 2014 - 2:31 AM Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Sporting Kansas City rolled to a 4-0 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday at Sporting Park behind two goals from Dominic Dwyer, extending the Impact's winless run to seven games to begin the season. An own goal from Montreal's Calum Mallace in the 31st minute was the lone tally in the first half, while Sporting netted three more after the break with Aurelien Collin and Dwyer scoring three minutes apart before the forward added another four minutes from time.
Sporting has now earned 10 points from its last four games, while Montreal resides on the bottom of the Eastern Conference with three points from seven fixtures.
Collin kept the Impact off the scoreboard in the 14th minute when he cleared a shot from Marco Di Vaio off the goal line, while the hosts went in front 17 minutes later.
A long throw in from Matt Besler was inadvertently headed into his own net by Mallace while under pressure from Collin, putting Montreal behind 1-0 at halftime.
Sporting then turned up the pressure in the second half, and after a few nice stops from Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins to keep his team within a goal, Collin scored on a low shot from outside the penalty area to make it 2-0.
Dwyer then capped the win with two goals of his own, the first coming in the 74th from a Jacob Peterson cross before Graham Zusi set up Dwyer's second tally.
