Colorado hands Chivas second straight defeat

Jul 26, 2014 - 3:36 AM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Chivas USA's poor run of form continued on Friday as the club suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Goats were riding high on a four-game winning streak until they were bested in a 3-1 result against D.C. United last time out.

They were unable to bounce back from the loss as first-half goals from Nick LaBrocca and Drew Moor as well as a late goal from Gabriel Torres saw Colorado collect all three points.

The Rapids (8-6-6) snap a three-game winless run with the victory to climb to 30 points on the season while Chivas (6-9-5) stays put on 23 points.

Colorado wasted little time in creating a fine scoring opportunity as Dillon Serna ripped a blistering shot from outside the box off the crossbar in just the second minute of play.

The Rapids eventually broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with another sublime shot from distance. A loose ball fell to LaBrocca at the corner of the penalty area and the midfielder launched a curling left-footed strike that hit the inside of the far post and nestled into the back of the net to hand the Rapids the lead.

The hosts doubled their advantage 10 minutes later with Dillon Powers providing an excellent cross for Moor to nod home with a towering header.

The duo nearly connected for another goal in the 63rd minute when Powers delivered a superb free kick that was met by Moor, but the 30-year-old smashed his header off the crossbar.

Torres eventually added a third for the home side 16 minutes from time when he took a layoff from Carlos Alvarez and curled a splendid strike into the upper corner from the edge of the penalty area.
