Akindele, Castillo help FCD rout San Jose

Aug 17, 2014 - 4:34 AM Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tesho Akindele bagged a hat trick while Fabian Castillo added a brace as FC Dallas cruised past the San Jose Earthquakes in a 5-0 victory at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday.

Dallas got off the mark 30 minutes in as Castillo latched on to a ball played over the top of the San Jose defense, wriggled free of a few 'Quakes defenders and chipped a lovely shot over the on-rushing Jon Busch.

Akindele doubled FCD's advantage in the 43rd minute when he turned toward goal and lashed a slow-rolling shot that trickled past Busch and hit the post on its way into the back of the net.

San Jose had a tremendous chance to cut the deficit in half during stoppage time of the opening period. Matias Perez Garcia was brought down in the box by Victor Ulloa to grant the hosts a penalty, but Chris Wondolowski made a hash of the ensuing attempt, sending his shot over the crossbar.

The 'Quakes were left to rue that miss as Dallas ran away with the result in the second half.

Akindele made it three in the 58th minute when he tucked home a rebound conceded by Busch.

Castillo added to the lead the 74th minute with another superb solo effort, easing past the San Jose defense before cutting inside to his right foot and slipping a shot past Busch.

Akindele then wrapped up the comfortable win four minutes from time by turning home another rebound.

The win sees Dallas (11-7-6) improve to 39 points on the season to claim some breathing room in third place in the Western Conference.

San Jose (6-9-6) remains on 24 points for the season.
