Houston eases past Chicago

Sep 28, 2014 - 9:04 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Dynamo extended their unbeaten streak in league play to five matches on Sunday after coming away with a comfortable 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Omar Cummings opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Boniek Garcia added the insurance tally in the 67th minute as the Dynamo inched closer to the East playoff places by collecting three points. The result moves the club to 36 points.

Chicago, meanwhile, struggled to create scoring chances all afternoon and never really tested Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric. The defeat leaves Chicago in ninth place in the East with 31 points.

The hosts opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Ricardo Clark sent a lofted cross into the box from the left flank and Cummings got free to stab it home at the back post.

Houston then added the insurance goal in the 67th minute in stunning fashion as defender Kofi Sarkodie got down the right wing and sent a cross into the box. The ball was nodded back across the face of goal at the far post by Brad Davis and Garcia fired it home on the volley to double the advantage.

The fourth official's board showed four minutes of stoppage time, but Chicago could not break down a stout Houston back line.
