Castillo's brace lifts FCD past TFC
Apr 19, 2015 - 5:55 AM Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Fabian Castillo struck for a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes on Saturday as FC Dallas held on to claim a nervy 3-2 victory over Toronto FC at Toyota Stadium. It took just 29 seconds for FC Dallas to get on the board as Moises Hernandez sent one down the left wing. Castillo did well to beat his man, get to the ball and send a cool finish past Toronto goalkeeper Joe Bendik.
It was 2-0 for the home side in the 10th minute as Blas Perez sprayed the ball out wide to the left for Castillo, who cut inside with his first touch and ripped it into the bottom right corner.
FC Dallas made it 3-0 prior to the half-hour mark as Perez took the ball off the feet of a Toronto defender at the edge of the area and slid it past Bendik.
The match was delayed in the 41st minute due to heavy rain and lightning in the area. After an unplanned intermission of three hours and 23 minutes, the teams returned to the field, played the final few minutes of the first half and Dallas took its 3-0 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Toronto had difficulty finding space and carving out scoring chances early in the half, but a chance did materialize in the 73rd minute when Jackson decided to have a go from about 35 yards out, but it sailed well over the crossbar.
TFC made it a game late on as designated player Sebastian Giovinco netted in the 83rd minute and added a second goal in the 89th minute with a fantastic free kick.
The fourth official's board showed four minutes of added time, but the visitors couldn't make it all the way back as FC Dallas saw out the final few minutes of play to snap a two-game losing streak while dooming Toronto to its fourth consecutive defeat.
