'Caps ease past Revs at Gillette
Jun 28, 2015 - 1:40 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC extended their winning streak to three matches on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the 10-man New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.Rookie Cristian Techera opened the scoring and Octavio Rivero added the second goal for the Whitecaps, who improved to 32 points on the season and jumped into first place in the crowded Western Conference.
Teal Bunbury netted the lone tally for New England, but the Revs suffered their third straight loss and fourth in their last five matches.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring after 19 minutes through Techera, who netted his second goal of the season with an excellent individual effort.
Things then got worse for the home side as central defender Andrew Farrell was sent off by referee Allen Chapman for a second yellow-card offense.
Rivero doubled the lead for the visitors by scoring the ensuing penalty kick as the 'Caps took the two-goal lead into the break.
New England pulled one back with six minutes to play through Bunbury's fourth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Whitecaps' defense held out to claim three points away from home.
