Galaxy's unbeaten run hits 10

CARSON, Calif. (STATS) - Another match, another tie for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Edson Buddle scored in the 87th minute to lift the Galaxy a 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.

Buddle's goal enabled Los Angeles (1-1-9) to extend its unbeaten streak to 10 games with its team-record fifth consecutive tie.

Davy Arnaud scored for Kansas City (4-4-4).

Buddle, who had a career-best 15 goals last year, tied the score with his first of the season. He took a pass from Landon Donovan and converted from 13 yards inside the left post.

Donovan got the ball after Dema Kovalenko forced a turnover in midfield.

"I knew his first touch would be to Landon," Buddle said. "If I got into that open space early, I knew that Landon would have a good step (on the defense) going forward and he would be able to spring me.

"He could have went himself, you know. But I gave him the option, he picked me and I was able to do the rest."

Buddle has been limited to six games and two starts this season because of a tight left quadriceps muscle.

"My left thigh is about 90-95 percent now," Buddle said. "I had a good week of training. But you tend to pick up other injuries while you're trying to recover. Collectively, I'm trying to put it all together."

The Galaxy had to play with 10 men after the 58th minute, when Gregg Berhalter received a red card for pulling Claudio Lopez's jersey from behind on a breakaway.

"To get a point out of this required being a very good team," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "Our guys have really made a lot of progress. We just continue to get better and better."

Arnaud put the Wizards ahead 1-0 in the 84th minute, when he deflected Herculez Gomez's diving header with his left foot from 4 yards.

"It's disappointing when you're winning 1-0 with an extra player and you don't walk away with the three points," Wizards coach Curt Onalfo said. "It feels like a loss to us."

Arnaud had another chance to score in the 45th minute but Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts blocked a 5-yard line drive with his chest.

Chris Klein had an opportunity to give the Galaxy the lead in the 82nd minute. Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman leaped to deflect Klein's 21-yard line drive with his left hand.

Hartman got some unexpected help to thwart two of the Galaxy's attacks. In the 38th minute, Alan Gordon's 5-yard shot hit the underside of the crossbar but failed to cross the goal line.

Then in the 83rd minute, Buddle's 6-yard header off Donovan's corner kick ricocheted off the crossbar before Wizards defender Jimmy Conrad cleared the ball.

Hartman extended his streak of minutes played to 8,460 since 2006, a Major League Soccer record.

The Wizards played without Josh Wolff, who began the week tied for the MLS lead in goals with six. Wolff was suspended for receiving a red card against Chivas USA on May 23.
