Casey scores 2 goals as Colorado beats Toronto FC
Apr 18, 2010 - 11:11 PM COMMERCE CITY, Colo.(AP) -- Jeff Larentowicz broke a tie with a goal in the 71st minute and Conor Casey scored two penalty goals, helping the Colorado Rapids run their home unbeaten streak to seven with a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC on Sunday.Casey's two goals helped the Rapids (2-1-1) improve to 4-0-3 over two seasons at home.
It was the first goal of the year for Larentowicz. Casey's goals were his 31st and 32nd as a member of the Rapids, moving him into third on the club's career list.
Colorado played without defender Julien Baudet, who was serving a one-game suspension.
Dwayne De Rosario had a penalty kick goal of his own for Toronto FC (1-3-0), which has been outscored 9-2 in their three road losses this year.
De Rosario has all four goals for Toronto this year.
Casey came into the league with Toronto FC in 2007, scoring two goals with the Reds before being traded to Colorado on April 19, 2007.
His second goal of the year, both off penalty kicks, came in the 24th minute after Adrian Cann dragged down Colorado's Omar Cummings. Larentowicz's goal came on a free kick from just outside the scoring area, appearing to catch Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei by surprise.
Casey's second penalty kick goal of the game came in the 85th minute.
The Rapids lobbed shots from long range that were either wide or over their target early in the game, when scoring chances were at a premium. Kosuke Kimura's soft shot made it through to Frei from 35 yards out, but was easily caught.
Sam Cronin had one of a handful Toronto possession's into Colorado territory. His shot from the left side was smothered by goalkeeper Matt Pickens while on all fours in the 13th minute.
This was the first meeting between the teams since their March 25 trade in which Colorado acquired defender Marvell Wynne and sent midfielder Nick LaBrocca and a third-round 2011 MLS SuperDraft pick to Toronto.
