Schelotto lifts Crew past Chivas USA
May 16, 2010 - 2:25 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio(AP) -- Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to give the unbeaten Columbus Crew a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday night in Major League Soccer.Schelotto sent the ball down the middle past goalkeeper Zach Thornton for his fourth goal after he helped set up the penalty. He sent a free kick to the left post and Chivas forward Justin Braun pulled down Chad Marshall.
Columbus improved to 4-0-2, while Chivas USA dropped to 3-5-1.
Crew defender Gino Padula made two goal-line blocks within a minute. He cleared a shot by Jonathan Bornstein in the 58th minute. Then, after goalkeeper William Hesmer stopped Justin Braun, Padula headed a shot from Blair Gavin out of the goalmouth.
