Kirvoski scores 2 goals in Galaxy's 4-1 win

Jun 6, 2010 - 4:52 AM CARSON, Calif.(AP) -- Jason Kirvoski got the Los Angeles Galaxy off to a fast start.

Kirvoski scored twice to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 4-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night. His first goal came just 47 seconds into the match, the third-fastest goal in Galaxy history and the second Los Angeles has scored in the opening minute this season.

"It was great to play up front," Kivorski said. "I was excited and I wanted to score. Every time we made a few passes we got right at them. We wanted to come out and attack them because in Columbus we got defensive after we scored. This time we wanted to attack more, and we did."

After Cam Weaver tied the score for Houston in the 7th minute with his first goal of the season, Kirvoski gave the Galaxy the lead for good in the 21st minute.

Tristan Bowen (48th minute) and Alex Cazumba (56th) also scored for Los Angeles (10-0-2), which tied its own MLS record for most games without a loss to start a season. The Galaxy opened 12-0 in their inaugural season.

Clint Mathis scored 33 seconds in for the Galaxy on July 25, 1999, and Brian Mullan did it 39 seconds in on May 9, 2001. A.J. DeLa Garza scored 51 seconds in against Philadelphia on May 1.

The Galaxy, tops in MLS with 32 points, improved to 4-0 without stars Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle, who are with the U.S. national team preparing for next week's World Cup opener against England in South Africa.

The Galaxy have not played with Donovan and Buddle since a scoreless tie against Toronto FC on May 15.

"It's a much improved roster from the one I inherited in 2008," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "It was a good one last year and I think we made it better in 2010.

"Having said that, I look forward to getting some of our other players back. Not only our players who have participated in the World Cup - I hope we don't get them back until July 11 - but some of our other players are coming back. Eddie Lewis, Alan Gordon, those players who have missed part of the season."

The Dynamo (5-7-1) lost their third straight, a first in club history.

"We are all disappointed because this is a proud group and this is the first time we have lost three in a row ever," Houston coach Dominic Kinnear said. "There's a lot of question makrs about the way we are playing, how our guys are playing individually and collectively."

Weaver's goal of the season proved to be a painful first-goal memory after taking a kick to the face from charging Galaxy goalie Donovan Ricketts. Los Angeles' Sean Franklin met Weaver at the top of the box, but moved out of the way for an oncoming Ricketts, who attempted to clear the ball. Lost in the collision was the ball, which trickled into the mouth of the goal to tie the match.
