Chivas USA 1, Sounders 2

Oct 16, 2010 - 6:22 AM SEATTLE (AP) -- Steve Zakuani scored and helped set up Osvaldo Alonso's goal in the Seattle Sounders' 2-1 victory over Chivas USA on Friday night.

The Sounders won their franchise-record fifth MLS game in a row, tying Real Salt Lake for the longest in the league this season.

Seattle, which already has clinched its second straight playoff spot, remained fourth in the Western Conference with 48 points, one behind FC Dallas.

Jesus Padilla scored in second-half stoppage-time goal for Chivas, which has 28 points and has been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time in five seasons.

Zakuani's goal in the ninth minute was his 10th of the year, tying him with Fredy Montero for the team lead. Alonso scored his first of the year in the 25th.

"We didn't play that well tonight, but we got goals at good times, so 2-1 is a good result," Zakuani said.

The Sounders had never scored against or beaten Chivas in four previous regular-season MLS games.

"We didn't want them to be our boogie team and be the team that would always be on that side of the ledger for us," Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. "That was something the guys definitely wanted to go out and change."

The two Seattle goals in the first 25 minutes were a sore spot with Chivas USA coach Martin Vasquez.

"We have given up early goals and have to try and chase the game and come up short," Vasquez said. "We have seen Seattle play and know how they are going to come out with energy. They come out and pressure you and attack you in their half and get out in transition. If you get down 2-0 here, it's difficult."
