Bravo brace leads Sporting K.C. to win at Chivas USA

Mar 20, 2011 - 4:45 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City opened its 2011 season with a 3-2 win at Chivas USA thanks to two goals from new designated player Omar Bravo.

K.C. forward C.J. Sapong made it 1-0 just two minutes in after a long free kick into the Chivas USA penalty area. After a failed clearance by the defense Sapong fired home for the early lead.

That was how the score stayed until the closing seconds of the first half when Bravo scored his first of the game by chipping a service over Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton after another whiff by the defense left him along in front of the 'keeper.

Chivas USA pulled one back about 10 minutes after the break when former Kansas City defender Jimmy Conrad burned his former team off a corner kick to make it 2-1.

But Bravo restored the two-goal advantage for the visitors in the 74th minute when he took a feed from Kei Kamara in the area and touched a shot past an onrushing Thornton.

Chivas USA made it 3-2 in the 84th minute on a Ben Zumanski goal, but that was as close as it could get in its home opener.
