San Jose, Houston set to square off at Buck Shaw

Jun 3, 2011 - 9:20 PM Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Earthquakes wrapped up an unbeaten May last week with a 2-2 draw at Chicago, going 2-0-2.

Now the 'Quakes (3-4-4) hope to start June on a good note when they host the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer action at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday.

The team, which was disappointed not to get the full points vs. Chicago, will be aiming to correct a few things at home on Saturday.

"I was disappointed to be up 2-1 and not win the game, but the effort from our players was excellent, and our goals were good," Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop said. "Yes, we'd like to keep clean sheets and make sure we don't concede goals ... but the endeavor and the fight from the guys, I've been really happy with."

Houston (3-4-6), on the other hand, was winless in May, but is also coming off a 2-2 draw with FC Dallas. It has earned three draws in its last four league fixtures, and coach Dominic Kinnear was not happy with how his team played last week.

"Overall, we could have played better, and the guys we gave opportunities to could have played better," he said.

Houston will catch a break, with San Jose's top goal scorer Chris Wondolowski called to the U.S. national team for the upcoming Gold Cup. Ryan Johnson will also be absent, and Scott Sealy is battling an injury, so forward options are limited for the 'Quakes.

On top of Johnson and Wondolowski, San Jose will be without Andre Luiz, while Simon Dawkins and Tim Ward are questionable, and Sealy is probable, all with injures.

The Dynamo will be without Andre Hainault, Jermaine Taylor and Je-Vaughn Watson because of their participation with their national teams, while Kofi Sarkodie is suspended and Calen Carr is out with a concussion. Also, Brian Ching is listed as doubtful, Corey Ashe is questionable, and Danny Cruz and Cam Weaver are probable, all with injuries.
