Sporting ends epic road swing with draw at Toronto
Jun 5, 2011 - 1:22 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Home is where the heart is.Sporting Kansas City hopes that's where the points are as well.
Sporting concluded a 10-game road schedule that had them travel 29,000 miles to start the 2011 Major League Soccer season with a 1-6-3 record after a 0-0 draw at Toronto FC on Saturday night.
The point, just the team's sixth this season, is huge considering Kansas City is in last in the Eastern table. There is hope, considering 17 of Sporting's final 20 games are in the newly minted home stadium - Livestrong Sporting Park - which officially opens on Thursday night.
Saturday's game vs. Toronto FC (2-5-7) was a rather uneventful one for each side. Neither team had any legitimate chances as they both seemed content to share the points.
TFC was coming off an embarrassing 6-2 loss last weekend at BMO Field, so a share of the spoils is a definite improvement for the downtrodden side.
The Reds will aim for the full points when they hit the road to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy next Saturday in their next MLS fixture, while Sporting hosts the Chicago Fire on Thursday.
