Struggling sides TFC, Revs play to scoreless draw
Jun 16, 2011 - 2:03 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution and Toronto FC were both in need of a good result on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium. However, the two sides played to a lackluster 0-0 draw, doing little to improve the poor run of form that both teams are currently on.
The Revs (3-7-5) lost their previous four matches entering Wednesday's contest, while Toronto (2-5-9) is now winless in its last seven games, with five draws from its last six fixtures.
TFC brought a 0-4-1 mark all-time at Gillette Stadium into the game, but the visitors had the better of the play in the first half as Joao Plata forced a diving save from Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis.
Alan Gordon, who scored two goals in Toronto's last game, then had a header cleared off the goal line by New England's Kevin Alston.
The Revs put up a better effort in the second half and they should have gone in front in the 58th minute when Rajko Lekic missed the net with an open volley from 10 yards.
Toronto substitute Gianluca Zavarise picked up two quick yellow cards in the final five minutes of the match, but the hosts were unable to take advantage and they have now scored two goals in their last five games.
