Sporting earns draw at Philadelphia

Jun 23, 2011 - 1:47 AM Chester, PA (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City earned a point by holding on for a 0-0 draw at the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer action on Wednesday.

With the road point, Sporting (3-6-5) is now unbeaten in its last six, including going 1-0-3 in it's last four road games.

Philadelphia (6-4-5), on the other hand, has gone four without a win but remains in a tie atop the Eastern table with 23 points through 15 fixtures.

After an uneventful first 70 minutes, the Union started really pressing in the final 20. Striker Carlos Ruiz had the best chance of the game in the 72nd minute when he headed a Sebastien Le Toux service from the right side off the crossbar in the 72nd minute.

Just five minutes later, Union midfielder Justin Mapp's hard shot was saved by Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen before a pair of Le Toux drives went just wide in the closing minutes.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, with the Union hosting Chivas USA and Sporting hosting Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
