Colombia, North Korea draw but bow out of WWC

Jul 7, 2011 - 1:05 AM Bochum, Germany (Sports Network) - Colombia and North Korea crashed out of the Women's World Cup on Wednesday without scoring a goal as the teams played to a 0-0 draw in their final group-stage match.

Both countries were already eliminated from the tournament, having lost their first two matches in Group C. Colombia fell 1-0 to Sweden and 3-0 to the United States, while North Korea fell 2-0 to the United States and 1-0 to Sweden.

In the opening half, Colombia found it very difficult to get in behind the North Korean defense, resulting in an onslaught of long-range efforts, all of which failed to test Hong Myong-Hui in goal.

North Korea did not have much luck either, as its two best goal-scoring opportunities were whistled back for offsides.

In the second half, North Korea enjoyed more possession and looked like the team most likely to break the deadlock, but it failed to turn the possession into goal-scoring opportunities.

Colombia, meanwhile, struggled to play with chemistry, and resorted to taking more and more shots from distance.

Although Colombia and North Korea both accumulated one point each from three group matches, North Korea finishes Group C in third place with a goal differential of minus-three, while Colombia finishes last with a goal differential of minus-four.
