Crew aims to rebound against TFC

Sep 9, 2011 - 6:29 PM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The Columbus Crew return home on Saturday to face Toronto FC in the second installment of the Trillium Cup this season. But Robert Warzycha's team will be trying to erase the memory of a crushing loss to Seattle.

The Crew suffered a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of the Sounders, giving the team only its second four-goal defeat in franchise history, but according to defender Chad Marshall, the club is putting that result in the past.

"It was a like a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong, went wrong," Marshall said of the Seattle match. "There's not much to take from it. It happens once in a while. We're totally looking ahead, moving on."

Despite the ugly nature of the defeat, Columbus has still won four of its last six games and sits three points clear of second-place Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference.

One player who has played an important role for Columbus this season is midfielder Eddie Gaven, who started the first 23 games of the season. He has missed the past three matches with a leg injury but could be in contention for a place in the team on Saturday.

Toronto enters the match at the opposite end of the East standings after a 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Aron Winter has seen his side claim just one win in its last nine games, but things have gotten better recently with TFC collecting six points from its past five contests.

Despite the recent improvement in results, Toronto has still conceded the most goals in the league, and has been undone by mistakes that continue to haunt the club.

"Normally you should learn from these mistakes but when they happen over and over again, it's very frustrating," said Toronto midfielder Julian de Guzman. "It's hard to swallow. It's also important for each individual to take a look at themselves and ask 'how professional am I? Am I ready for this?' These are crucial moments in any soccer game that can turn things around and it always goes against us."
