Seattle earns draw in New York despite Le Toux's debut goal
Jul 15, 2012 - 10:19 PM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Sebastien Le Toux scored 24 minutes into his Red Bull New York debut, but Seattle Sounders FC still left with a point as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw at Red Bull Arena on Sunday.Le Toux was acquired in a trade from Vancouver on Friday, and he needed just 24 minutes to open his New York account following a goal from Seattle's Alvaro Fernandez eight minutes earlier.
New York took the lead just after the hour mark through Joel Lindpere, but Seattle came right back six minutes later to net the equalizer through substitute Fredy Montero.
The draw is Seattle's third in four games while New York is winless in its last three matches.
New York was also breaking in a new goalkeeper on Sunday in Bill Gaudette, and he produced a nice save on Seattle's Brad Evans 11 minutes into the contest.
But he was picking the ball out of his net five minutes later as Adam Johansson's cross was volleyed home at the back post by Fernandez.
Kenny Cooper helped set up the equalizer from Le Toux with a long-range effort that forced goalkeeper Bryan Meredith to parry the shot, which Le Toux pounced on and fired past the 'keeper.
Markus Holgersson came close to giving New York the lead on the stroke of halftime, only for his header to come back off the crossbar from Thierry Henry's corner kick.
The hosts jumped in front in the 61st when Lindpere turned his defender and beat Meredith with a low shot at the near post, while the Sounders battled back to level things at 2-2 with Montero scoring on a first-time shot following a pass from Evans.
New York had two chances in the last 15 minutes to grab all three points when a header from Dax McCarty was cleared off the goal line by Johansson. Roy Miller then narrowly missed the right post when he nodded Henry's corner just wide at the final whistle.
