Seattle aims for better result in return to Carson
May 31, 2013 - 6:46 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Just when it seemed as though Seattle Sounders FC had turned the corner and was on a steady march up the Western Conference table, the club ran into a road block known as the Los Angeles Galaxy.Chivas USA has been struggling for the past month, and those troubles continued last weekend with a 2-0 defeat to the Colorado Rapids.
So when Seattle travels to Chivas on Saturday, both sides will be eager to claim three points in an effort to leave past failures behind.
Seattle had won its previous three matches by a combined score of 9-2 and looked to be on its way back to top form after a poor start to the campaign.
But the Sounders were simply overrun by the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center, and they will return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to the building now known as the StubHub Center.
The Galaxy ran out 4-0 winners last Sunday, with all four goals coming in the first half.
Robbie Keane netted a hat trick and assisted on the other goal as the Irishman dismantled a subpar Seattle outfit.
"They outplayed us. It doesn't matter whether you lose 4-nothing or 1-nothing. It's still zero points at the end of the day," Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said. "I don't think anybody had a good game on our team."
Seattle will be eager to move past last Sunday's result to begin a new winning streak, and goalkeeper Michael Gspurning knows his men will be anxious to erase that ugly result.
"For us, the next game can't be soon enough," Gspurning said. "I think most of the guys would want to play tomorrow because that's the only way you can make changes for the future."
Change is something that is desperately needed at Chivas USA after the club sustained its fourth successive defeat last weekend, losing 2-0 to the Rapids.
The Goats have been outscored 13-1 in those four defeats, and defender Bobby Burling knows it is up to him and his teammates to continue to put in the work in an effort to turn things around.
"It's only the people in the locker room that can change it," said Burling. "It's us together and we're trying to push forward in this thing as much as the next person. We've got to stay together, we've got to keep fighting for each other and hopefully along the way we'll get some bounces."
