San Jose eyes another win at struggling D.C.

Jun 21, 2013 - 6:50 PM Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - After guiding the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in his debut, interim head coach Mark Watson will hope to make it back-to-back victories when his club visits struggling D.C. United on Saturday.

Watson replaced long-time head coach Frank Yallop and helped San Jose snap a four-game winless streak by securing the team's first away win of the campaign.

"I've said this all along: We have a fantastic team, a good group of guys, great players, a great mentality, great work ethic, all the tools are there," Watson said. "To turn the corner, I think it's being confident, positive and addressing a few little things that we need to work on."

San Jose may have a few things still to address, but Watson should be confident that his team can pick up another three points on Saturday.

The Earthquakes have won each of their last three trips to D.C., while United has claimed just one victory in the last eight meetings between the two sides.

Another positive for Watson is the fact that for just the second time this season, his top attacking trio of Steven Lenhart, Alan Gordon and Chris Wondolowski was available to take the field at the same time last weekend, boosting the team's offensive presence.

United is in the midst of a club-record 13-game winless streak after a 2-1 defeat at home against Toronto FC last weekend.

Dwayne De Rosario put the home side in front from the penalty spot, but TFC battled back with a goal from Robert Earnshaw to level the contest before United's Daniel Woolard scored an own goal to decide the match.

De Rosario's goal snapped a scoreless drought of 314 minutes, and after the game, midfielder Nick DeLeon pretty much summed up the feeling in the United dressing room at the moment.

"The losses are starting to hurt more and more, so it's definitely tough. I don't have much to say about it. It is what it is," said DeLeon. "You've got to continue to believe in it and continue to move forward by trying our best, but we've got to do something or change something. I don't know. I don't have any answers."
