Zardes leads L.A. over Chivas

Jun 24, 2013 - 5:04 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Gyasi Zardes produced the lone goal in Sunday's Super Clasico at the StubHub Center as the Los Angeles Galaxy earned a 1-0 defeat of Chivas USA.

Zardes struck just before halftime, nodding home a free kick from Landon Donovan in the 44th minute for his second league goal of the season.

Donovan's helper brings him level with Preki for the third-most assists in MLS history (112). The 31-year-old is two assists shy of Carlos Valderrama (114) for second place on the list and 23 assists shy of the all-time leader in Steve Ralston (135).

Sunday's victory was enough to see Los Angeles (7-6-5) get back into the win column. The Galaxy entered the match winless in their last three, conceding eight goals over that stretch while scoring just once.

Chivas (3-10-2) remains without a league win since March 30. The Goats are winless in their last 10 matches, losing their last seven contests to stay at the foot of the Western Conference table with 11 points.

The Galaxy climb to fourth place in the West by improving to 24 points.
