Heart re-sign Hoffman, Velaphi

Mar 25, 2014 - 3:50 AM Melbourne Heart have moved to shore up its playing stocks for next season, re-signing two members of its defensive unit.

Jason Hoffman adds another two years to his contract and back-up goalkeeper Tando Velaphi adds next year to his time at Heart.

Coach John van `t Schip said Heart foundation player Hoffman had proved his importance to the club.

"Jason has been one of our standout players and consistent performers this season and has demonstrated his versatility in converting from a midfielder to a right-back," he said.

Heart is widely expected to shake up its playing stocks for the new season after Manchester City bought the club in January.

Both marquee positions could be free as international Orlando Engelaar's contract ends after this season and David Williams has re-signed under the general salary cap.

The future of Harry Kewell - uncontracted at the end of the season - also remains undecided.

Heart were knocked out of the A-League finals race by Central Coast on Sunday.
