The former Leicester City and Leeds United defender has also proved himself a dangerous threat from set pieces this season, scoring two goals.
"Melbourne and this club are now home for me and I am delighted to remain here next season," Kisnorbo said in a club statement.
"There is a burning desire for us to perform next season and I want to help this club achieve success."
Heart coach John van `t Schip said Kisnorbo had improved this season and called him a true leader at the club.
"Patrick is experienced, relishes a challenge and while he loves defending, he also brings an added aerial threat from free-kicks and corners," van `t Schip added.
The new contract commits Kisnorbo to the club through to the end of the 2014-15 season.
