Meram rescues Columbus at Seattle

Mar 30, 2014 - 4:15 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Super-sub Justin Meram scored at the death on Saturday to give the Columbus Crew a 2-1 win over 10-man Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.

The match was tied deep into stoppage time until Meram, who only entered the match in the 89th minute, broke through for a dramatic winner in the fourth minute of added time.

Columbus is perfect through three matches this season, taking nine points to climb atop the Eastern Conference.

The Sounders have managed six points from two contests but have tasted defeat twice on home soil this term.

Seattle was in front at the 22-minute mark as Kenny Cooper collected Obafemi Martins' pass to the left wing, drifted inside and curled a right-footed shot past Steve Clark.

The Sounders held the lead until early on in the second half when Djimi Traore up-ended Dominic Oduro, who was through on goal. Traore was issued a straight red card for the infraction and Federico Higuain converted from the spot to equalize for the Crew.

Traore's dismissal proved to be costly for the Sounders as Columbus bagged a late winner. Meram played the role of the hero, turning in Higuain's late corner to see the Crew collect all three points.
