Rapids aim to continue winning ways vs. Fire

Jun 3, 2014 - 9:25 PM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids will be out to extend their winning run to three games when the club welcomes the Chicago Fire to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.

Colorado has been on fire of late, scoring a total of seven goals over its last two games.

After a 4-1 demolition of the Montreal Impact, the Rapids cruised to a 3-0 defeat of the Houston Dynamo, a match that saw Deshorn Brown net a first-half brace to lead his side to a comfortable victory.

"I think the difference between good and great at this level is confidence," Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni said after the match. "Those that play at the highest level, and can maintain that level play with a lot of confidence. At times it's hard to find, especially as a striker when you're not hitting the net.

"But again, all the little things Deshorn has been doing leading into this game has now put him in a position to score those goals. I couldn't be happier for him, and the type of work that he did when he wasn't scoring those goals."

While Colorado continues to win matches, Chicago continues to pick up draws.

The Fire, who have won just two games all season, played to their seventh draw of the campaign on Sunday as they salvaged a point from a 1-1 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Games are coming thick and fast for Chicago, which will take on Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday for its third game in seven days.

The dense fixture list means that head coach Frank Yallop could shuffle the squad to keep players fresh.

"I said to the guys on Sunday, 'expect to play a couple of games, one of the games, whoever's in the squad will probably get a chance to play so be ready,'" Yallop told a correspondent from the club's official website. "I just have to figure out the lineup and what's going to work together. Each player just be ready to play some."
