Le Toux's double helps Union top Revs
Jun 29, 2014 - 1:51 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sebastien Le Toux scored on either side of the intermission on Saturday to make Jim Curtin's managerial debut in league play a success as the Philadelphia Union earned a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.Philadelphia has struggled nightly through the first half of the season, amassing just three wins which cost former manager John Hackworth his job.
But the change on the touch line lit a fire under the Union on Saturday as Le Toux netted twice to go with a goal from Danny Cruz to take the Union to 18 points on the season.
The majority of the first half was touch-and-go, but Philadelphia grabbed the lead three minutes before the break when Revs defender Andrew Farrell botched a back pass to goalkeeper Brad Knighton. Le Toux stepped in and smashed it home for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The visitors then made it 2-0 in the 69th minute as a knuckling strike from Cruz fooled Knighton and wound of in the bottom right corner of the net for his first tally of the campaign.
New England pulled one back in the 73rd minute when Kelyn Rowe got in behind the Union defense and squared the ball for Saer Sene, who had an easy tap-in in front of goal.
But Le Toux fired home his second of the night five minutes later to make sure all three points went to Philadelphia, which claimed its fourth victory of the season.
New England, meanwhile, has lost three straight in league play and remains in third place in the Eastern Conference on 23 points.
