Marcao's double lifts Figueirense past Coritiba

Oct 20, 2014 - 4:08 PM Sao Paulo, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcao netted a second-half double on Sunday as Figueirense rolled to a 4-0 demolition of Coritiba Estadio Orlando Scarpelli.

Figueirense entered the match in desperate need of three points and riding a three-match winless streak in league play, but the home side opened the scoring after 32 minutes through Marcos Antonio.

Figueirense then put the result away in the second half as Marcao hit for his first goal of the match in the 73rd minute and Mazola made it a 3-0 game in the 88th minute before Marcao completed his double one minute later to wrap up all three points.

The result pushes Figueirense up to 13th place in the table with 35 points, while Coritiba drops to the foot of the table on 29 points.

Also on Brazil on Sunday, Cleo hit for a brace on either side of the intermission as Atletico PR claimed a 2-1 result over Flamengo, while Jose Paolo Guerrero and Gil found the back of the net to lift Corinthians to a 2-1 victory over Internacional.

Gabriel scored twice and Geuvanio added a third tally as Sanots claimed a 3-1 win over Palmeiras, while Diego Souza and Wallyson traded goals as Sport Recife and Botafogo played to a 1-1 draw.

Dede fired home the winning tally five minutes from time to lift league leaders Cruzeiro to a 1-0 win over Vitoria, snapping a three-match losing streak across all competitions.

On Saturday, Wagner netted a pair of goals, while Dario Conca and Fred also found the back of the net as Fluminense claimed a 4-2 win over Criciuma, while Sao Paulo held on for a 2-1 victory over Bahia.

Douglas Santos netted the winner in the 29th minute as Atletico Mineiro held on for a 1-0 result over Chapecoense. In Saturday's final clash, Goias and Gremio played to a scoreless draw.
