Piatti leads Impact past FCD
May 24, 2015 - 2:02 AM Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Ignacio Piatti converted a penalty kick and added an assist on Saturday as the Montreal Impact glided to a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas at Stade Saputo.Piatti struck for the opening salvo in the 25th minute and former Philadelphia Union man Jack McInerney added a second goal early in the second half as the Impact won their second consecutive match.
The home-standing Impact had the better of the play early on and things swung in their momentum in the 25th minute when Andres Romero was hacked down in the penalty area by FC Dallas midfielder Moises Hernandez.
Piatti stepped to the spot and dispatched it into the net with ease for his second goal of the season.
The hosts doubled the lead five minutes into the second half with some clever offensive play as Piatti laid it back to the on-rushing McInerney, who lashed it into the bottom right corner from the top of the box, leaving FC Dallas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy with no chance for a save.
FC Dallas pulled one back with 13 minutes to play as defender Matt Hedges got on the end of a corner kick from Mauro Diaz and nodded it home to make things interesting late on.
FC Dallas' goal served to snap the Impact out of cruise control and the home defense held out to win consecutive games in league play for the first time since August 17 and 24, 2013.
