NYCFC tops Impact at Yankee Stadium
Jun 14, 2015 - 1:10 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York City FC claimed its second consecutive victory on Saturday with a convincing 3-1 result over the Montreal Impact at Yankee Stadium. It's been a bit of a struggle for Jason Kreis' team this season as the expansion club entered last week's clash with the Philadelphia Union riding an 11-match winless streak. but the club knocked off Philadelphia and entered Saturday with some momentum.
The home side opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark when David Villa got on the end of a cross from Medhi Ballouchy and knocked it home with ease.
NYC doubled the lead with 14 minutes to play through an excellent strike from U.S. international Mix Diskerud, but Montreal pulled one back with two minutes to play through Wandrille Lefevre.
New York City, however, wasn't rattled by the late goal and added an insurance tally through Kwadwo Poku in stoppage time to hand the expansion club an important three points.
The result sees Montreal's modest two-match winning streak come to an end as the club remains on 14 points.
