Wizards advance to Western Conference final, tie Chivas USA

Nov 4, 2007 - 6:13 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Wizards advanced to the Western Conference final in the MLS Cup playoffs after battling to a 0-0 draw against Chivas USA on Saturday.

Kansas City's win sets up a matchup against the defending MLS Cup champion Houston Dynamo, who defeat FC Dallas, 4-1, in Game Two of Thursday's Western Conference semifinal.

The fourth-seeded Wizards came away with a 1-0 victory in the series opener behind Davy Arnaud's unassisted goal in the 35th minute.

Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman was impressive in net for Kansas City, which sent Chivas USA to back-to-back first-round exits from the playoffs.

Entering as the lowest seed in the postseason, the Wizards are playing stellar soccer after going just 2-5-2 over their last regular season matchups.

While Kansas City managed to turn things around, Chivas ends its season with a dismal 0-2-3 record over the last five games and getting shut out four times during that stretch.

The setback was a major disappointing for Chivas, which finished with the best mark in the Western Conference at 15-7-8 largely in part of Netminder of the Year Brad Guzan.
